It is one of the many professional Microsoft Server products that is used by both commercial uand domestic users. Exchanges primary functions consist of E-mail, Calendars, Contacts and Tasks; all of which are part of the well known Microsoft Outlook Software that a lot of business users are accustomed to, but also works just as well on other Mac and PC applications, such as Microsoft Entourage (Mac) and Mozilla Thunderbird (Mac and PC).

So lets break that down; essentially Exchange Server is an online storage facility for not only your emails, but your calendars, contacts, notes and tasks, that you can connect to from any computer connected to the internet. Primarily designed for businesses, but is also highly suited for individuals who want more flexibility from thier mail platform than most webmail clients offer or POP3 email accounts are capable of providing.
